Ex-NPA commander convicted of robbery, homicide
A former NPA Commander was sentenced to life imprisonment after he was convicted of charge robbery with multiple homicide.
In a 17-page decision of Regional Trial Court Branch 42 Judge Marie Rose Inocando-Paras that was read yesterday afternoon wherein it has proven that Raul Villar is guilty of the crime.
Raul Villar aka “Ka Drilon” along with Julito Amaro aka “Ka Diolo” and Jaime Amaro aka “Junior” were charged with robbery with multiple homicide. The three were identified as responsible for robbing and killing 4 individuals who were bringing the payroll money of Sta. Catalina town last May 8, 2002. The crime happened in Bayawan City.
The victims were Librado Dagat, Serafin Dinsay Jr, Winnie Capunong and Virginia Edrial. Robbed from the victims was cash worth P372, 000. After robbing the victims, they were mercilessly shot to death using high powered firearms which that was the reason for the immediate demise of the victims.
In her decision, Judge Paras said that the accused has defended by denying the allegation with alibis. Villar said that he was not in the area of the crime during the incident since he was in Barangay Kahka, Sta. Catalina town. However, Judge Paras in her decision said that Ka Drilon failed to present any witness that can corroborate his alibi. On the other hand, the prosecution, Judge Paras further disclosed, although has only presented a “circumstantial evidence” since it did not present any witness during the crime but 16 witnesses were able to prove the circumstances of the crime.
The other suspects, Ka Diolo and Junior are still at large. Amaro was captured on June 22, 2002 and was arraigned on August 7, 2002 who pleaded not guilty. Amaro manifested that he could be a state witness and asked for a common hearing along with the other suspects. However, Amaro escaped according to the report of the Negros Oriental Rehabilitation and Detention Center warden.
Ka Drilon was captured last January 9, 2007 by the members of the Philippine Army headed by 2nd Lt. Danilo Barranda.
During yesterday’s promulgation, security was tightened through the SWAT team.
