Mayor Villanueva: Only PGMA can stop us
Only the President of the Philippines has the right to stop the local government of Bais City in its distribution of free ozonized water to the indigents. This was disclosed by Bais City Mayor Tata Villanueva who was interviewed over DYEM Energy FM Dumaguete Tonight.
According to Mayor Villanueva, if the President tells them to stop their distribution of ozonized water to their constituents, then that would be the time for them to stop.
This was Mayor Villanueva’s reaction after the National Water Resources Board (NWRB) said that the LGU of Bais has to secure a permit from them because o deriving their water supply at the Mabunao, Tina-an Spring. The NWRB has issued a cease and desist order to the Bais LGU but the local government still continuous to get its water supply from the spring. However, they have already applied for a water permit. Earlier, Bais City Water District General Manager Evan Irish Cacas complained to Malacanang regarding the distribution of free ozonized water by the government which eventually decreased their customers.
Mayor Villanueva disclosed that only President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo could stop him from distributing free water to his constituents. He added that there could be possible that some businessmen engaged in the water business might be influencing Cacas. However, the mayor explained that he is not competing with the businessmen since only the indigents were given the free supply of ozonized water. He disclosed that the poor cannot afford to buy mineral water.
