New arrastre assures industrial peace
The newly assumed arrastre Prudential Customs Brokerage Srvices Incor[orated which was turned over yesterday has assured that it will promote industrial peace instead of instigating union conflicts with former arrastre group.
Dumaguete City Mayor Agustin Perdices fears that the prices of the basic commodities might rise if the planned stand off of the port workers.
Mayor Perdices said there is an on going agreement for a compromise.
The Associated Labor Union wants the Prudential Brokerage and Stevedoring Services Incorporated to accept all the union members in the corporation’s take over of the stevedoring and arrastre services in the port.
The Prudential has formally taken over last midnight.
In his interview with the media, Mayor Agustin Perdices disclosed that if no cargo ships can dock in the port, most probably, the ships will dock in a farther port to serve the shipments.
If this happens, the businessmen will then add the amount of the prices of their products due to their additional expenses for the transportation of their goods.
Meanwhile, regarding the peace and order when the situation worsens, Supt Leopoldo Cabanag said that they will implement maximum tolerance and will stick with the 50 meters distance from the rally. He added that he will only wait for Mayor Agustin Perdices’ order in case the incident happens.
