Sports Officials to arrive here
The representative of the International Olympics Committee to the Philippines, Frank Elizalde, will arrive today here in Dumaguete in order to witness the 3rd Philippine Olympic Committee All Visayas Qualifying Games which will happen starting July 23, tomorrow, until July 27.
According to Nestor Ilagan, Vice-Chairman of the technical Committee, other invited guests who will come include Roberto Abentajado, Chairman of the Philippine Olympic festival and other officials from the Philippine Sports Commission. The Olympic Festival will be participated in by 11 local government units from Eastern, Western and Central Visayas. About 1, 500 athletes, coaches and National Association Officials will participate in the said sports event.
The event will be formally opened tomorrow afternoon through a torch relay starting in Rizal Boulevard passing through the streets in the city and finally to Perdices Memorial Coliseum. The torch will be accepted by the local officials, organizers and sponsors inside the rubberized track and the last to accept the torch will be Governor Emilio Macias who will also light the cauldron.
Co-Chair of the NOSCFBM Glynda Descuatan said that the highlight of the ceremony will be a mass demonstration which will be participated in by students from Dumaguete City High School.
On the other hand, Cecilia Junterial, Head of the Secretariat of the Philippine Olympic festival in a Press Conference said that the winners of the Regional Eliminations will represent to the National Championship which will be held in Mizamis Oriental.
