Captured leftist admits red involvement
Captured Pedro Lumantas admitted allegations of his being a member of the New People’s Army which was formerly operating in Sevilla, Bohol but has transferred in Cebu.
In an interview over DYEM Energy FM Dumaguete Tonight with Lumantas at the Hall of Justice, he admitted his being a member of the rebel group but denied the 4 charges of murder pointed at him. Lumantas was nabbed by virtue of a warrant of arrest issued by Judge Padiraga of Branch 45 in Danao City.
According to Lumantas, he entered the rebel movement in 1987 as squad leader of Front 1 in Sevilla, Bohol under Commander Domingo Campos aka Commander Cobra. He added that after their organization in Bohol was destroyed, they transferred in Cebu and he is now assigned in the communication sector of the organization. He disclosed that his job is to deliver mails from the sector in Cebu to the group operating here in Negros Oriental.
Lumantas aka Ka George said that the letters will be given to him by a certain “Timya” which he will bring here in Negros Oriental and hand to a person named “Mina”. He said this should be his third time to deliver the mails if he wasn’t just captured.
When Ka George was asked how he felt after being captured, he said that he is happy since he was not hurt by the military and the police. He disclosed that he is willing to cooperate with the authorities but denied the recovery of two grenades in his bag.
