Macias disapproves PGMA’s SONA
Negros Oriental Governor Emilio Macias II described the advices accepted by Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo to solve the food crisis in the country as irrelevant and inaccurate. This he disclosed in his speech during his speech in the final judging of the recent Timbayayong Award for Outstanding LGU and NGO/PO.
Governor Macias said it could have been better if the President’s programs were intended for food production. He said he is not in favor of utilizing the income coming from the Extended Value Added Tax for giving subsidies to the poor. He added that instead of constantly giving subsidies to the poor, they should be trained how to find a living than just wait for help to arrive.
Macias disclosed that he does not agree with President Arroyo’s State of The Nation Address. However, he clarified that he won’t criticize it either. Macias then encouraged all NGOs and Pos to educate farmers especially in the usage of organic fertilizer for them to be more productive.
