Macias: promote organic fertilizer
Governor Emilio Macias has encouraged the Negros Orinetal Network of NGOs (NegOrNET) to give much importance to constantly promote organic farming. This was emphasized by the governor in his speech in the final judging of the Timbayayong Award for Outstanding LGU and NGO/PO Partnership 2008.
Governor Macias said it is high time to seriously promote organic farming after the price of chemical fertilizers continued to rise. Aside from its enormous price, chemical fertilizers are also bad for the soil.
Macias disclosed that he has even ordered Schools Division Superintendent Licerio Napao to train public school teachers how to produce organic fertilizers for them to impart to their students. Macias said the provincial government will buy half of the produced organic fertilizers by the students for them to generate income. He added that it is essential for the students to know the importance of organic fertilizers.
